News broke today about two individuals who are being threatened with excommunicated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
One of these members would be excommunicated for actions promoting the ordination of Mormons who have historically been prohibited from Priesthood and church leadership.
The second member would be excommunicated for supporting equal rights of marginalized members in the church and advocating for equality.

Oops!
I apologize.. I think my google search for the recent excommunications must have gone awry. I meant to find the article about Kate Kelly and John Dehlin. You can read about them here.

Clever! I was excommunicated from the LDS Church in April for “apostasy” — because I supported the possibility that maybe the Church “lost” the “fulness of the priesthood” before November 19, 1841.
Actually, it wasn’t me who said that, but God (through His spokesman, Joseph Smith). You can read it in D&C 124:28.
I was fully active, a temple-recommend holder, returned missionary, BYU grad, sealed in the temple, husband of one wife and father of seven. No matter. I was “gone”.
Because the “correlated” Church (a nameless, bureaucratic entity unto itself) can do no wrong, teach no falsity, suffer no challenge and lead none astray — all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding — the ignorant and ill-educated will not know any better. All the Church does now keeps one believing that their voluminous “good works” could not possibly prevent them from coming unto Christ.
But they do! And it does!
The “high priests” at my hearing actually stated that Christ does NOT save us personally! Can you believe that? I assure you that’s what they said. I bore my witness that Christ DOES in deed save us “personally” and they said that was “false doctrine”.
To hell with them.
Fascinating repeat of history there.
I’d like to publicly facelike this post, but feel that the headline and anime image are too harsh for my Mormon family and friends. They won’t even bother reading it. Perhaps you’ve thought about toning it down? Just a thought; don’t mean to tell you what to do – your blog. Maybe I should do my own.
All of this stuff has been discredited, but it bothers me that high leaders in the church didn’t know enough to rise above such prejudices.
They still don’t – Half of the church’s population are still entitled with authority over the other half simply based upon their gender. 😉
What would be comparable to this today: A man being excommunicated for ordaining women to the priesthood.
Men no longer being entitled simply for having a penis or XY chromosomes? The HORROR!
