Talk on Things and Stuff is a new series on this blog in which the puppet persona of Thinker of Thoughts (a.k.a. Bomonomo) sits down and talks with various personalities in the former Mormon community.

Why puppets? Well – the reasons are 3 fold. First, many people coming out of Mormonism are uncomfortable being too open and public about their views because of strong negative social consequences of shunning and ostracism in Mormon culture. In places where one’s professional and employment standing may be adversely affected by leaving Mormonism, the stakes are even higher.   The anonymity of puppets can reduce this danger. Second, displacement of the individuals persona to the puppet may soften the negative reactions that people have when listening to things which contradict previously held emotionally charged views. Third, I have a bunch of puppets sitting around and am trying to find ways to use them.

Note that the puppetry is not perfect – far from it. You want perfect? Watch the muppets.
